Later tater and a flashback

Thanks to Alicia at More Than Words for hosting this fun flashback every Friday!

The house I grew up in backed up to a park.  It was the perfect park, too, with some of everything - woods, big hills, a nice playground, softball fields, and a small basketball court way in the back.  Oh, and a creek!  I'm not sure how I could forget that because it often flooded and the park would be a sloppy mess.  However, one of the best things about the creek and the overflow water was when it all turned to ice in the winter.

When there was snow and ice, the park would be full of kids sleigh-riding down the hills and ice skating on the creek - or in this case, on the frozen ground!  Even though it's hard to see, my brother and I are wearing ice skates in this picture.  I remember mine - they were the kind that had 4 small blades and went on over your shoes.  I asked my mom what was up with the pants and she said, "Oh those were Capris".  Mmmmm K. (not)  When I look at old pictures the pants all look like they need to be shifted down a kid.  This must've been around 1969/70.

Go visit Alicia and check out some more pre-digital fun!

Also, one last thing...I am going to be taking a break from the blogging world.  I have SO much fun doing it and meeting great people, and laughing, and learning, and getting great ideas and recipes, but I have some projects on the homefront that I'd like to get started and those need my attention right now.

I think to be a good blogger, it's a two-way street ~ posting on your own site and visiting other blogs.  If I'm going to do something, I want to do it right and if I continue posting without visiting others, I feel like I'm doing half my job.  Perhaps this is will be a temporary hiatus and perhaps my blogging life has run its course, which hopefully is not the case.  Perhaps I can go to a once-or-twice-a-week post and visit others in between.

I'm very envious of those who are able to juggle many balls in the air - I truly lack that ability and freely admit it.   I'm imPerfect - and sometimes that's just no fun!

Being helpful

My sweet husband recently got a new car.  He's more of a get-me-to-work-and-back kind of guy so ever since we've gotten married, if we've gotten a new anything (usually a minivan), I'm the one who's driven it.  The new car is nothing fancy but it's new and he wants to keep it nice.  Granted, he worked in grocery stores for YEARS so door dings from carts were just a part of life for him, which is why he was happy with used or older cars.

Now he's in the office and is hoping to keep his car ding-less and in good shape.  I'm sure he'll drive it for the next 20 years (because that's how he is) so I get it.  HOWEVER....this is what I came home to the other day...

He said he thought it would be helpful for me so that I didn't get too close to his side of the garage and accidentally hit his door opening mine.  Um, excuse you?  It wasn't two days later when I looked out and saw this at the end of the driveaway from Mr. Helpful...

He said he missed a little bit trying to back in around my son's car that was on his side of the driveway.  Really?  'Cause I can hardly tell!  So then I started thinking about boundaries and how sometimes maybe they're not such a bad thing.  I came up with a few of my own - you know, just to be "helpful"...

And when it's 1 or 2 a.m. and the kids aren't home yet...

I think he's onto something - I like when we help each other!!
Love you babe ~ ♥

Oh deer

Welcome to another week of Tuesday's Show & Tail, hosted by Angela at West Virginia Treasures.  My VERY favorite animal is a deer.  I keep saying in my next house, I want deer in the yard - real ones, not those plastic ones looking out into the distance.  What's that about?  Now I wouldn't call us totally boring but a lot of times near dusk, my husband and I will take a "deer drive" just for fun.  We live a couple miles from the Missouri River and lots of woodsy areas.  When we see one that's two inches from the car we never have a camera - you know how that goes.

A friend told me about a place about a half-hour from us (a power plant actually) that gets lots of deer in their fields and they come up to the barrier fence so people can feed them.  SAY WHAT!?  Lyme disease?  Sure I'll risk it!  Honestly, it never entered my mind at the time.  We packed up our carrot sticks and apples and off we went.  Sure enough, they were everywhere - when one group walked back into the woods another one would come out.  They walked around like they owned the place - they'd step over the big pipes and power "stuff".  It was hilarious - this was on the weekend so the plant was closed, but there were corn cob remnants everywhere from those who came before.

These pictures were from around 1998/99.  We drove over there several times throughout the year and then one time, the fun was over.  They had signs up everywhere saying not to feed the deer and they'd prosecute, etc.  I don't know if the deer were getting too fat, or were overpopulating the place, or people were feeding them bad things - who knows?  Maybe the power plant wanted to do actual business there.  But for awhile I got to have fun and get some good pictures.

Pop on over to Angela's for more Show & Tails!
